HELP

Katun is a Bolliger & Mabillard inverted roller coaster located at Mirabilandia in Savio, Emilia-Romagna, Italy. It is considered to be one of Bolliger & Mabillard's best coasters. The coaster travels through a stargate at the beginning and end of the ride.

Design

Elements

This ride features a pre-drop, an element used by B&M to avoid strain on the lift chain.

Colour scheme

Black track with blue rails and black supports.

Trains

3 trains with 8 cars per train. In each car, riders are arranged 4 across in a single row, for a total of 32 riders per train.

Theming

Katun has an Ancient Mayan theme. Riders pass through two 'Stargates', one at the start and one at the end of the ride. A Katun is a period of 7200 days (just under 20 years) in the Maya calendar.

Incident

On 18 August 2007, a man was struck in the head and killed by the leg of a girl on the ride. The man passed a 2-metre fence to retrieve his hat and didn't realize the train was coming at 65 mph. The girl who hit the man was injured and the ride had to be shut down for 24 hours while an investigation looked at the ride.
