Powder Keg: A Blast into the Wilderness, often shortened to Powder Keg, is an S&S Worldwide steel launched roller coaster located at Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri, USA.

History

When originally constructed, this roller coaster was a water roller coaster from Premier Rides called BuzzSaw Falls. It originally opened in 1999. During the 2003 season, the ride closed down, and construction on Powder Keg started. This conversion saw the ride converted from a water coaster to a launched coaster. On April 8, 2005, the ride reopened as Powder Keg: A Blast into the Wilderness.[1] Powder Keg launches riders from 0-53 mph in 2.8 seconds. Part of the track from BuzzSaw Falls is still on Powder Keg, as is a car that is now used as theming on the station roof.[2]

Design

Elements

The train rolls out of the station onto the switch track, which slides up and to the left, connecting to the launch track. The train launches to 53mph in 2.8 seconds. The train climbs up an airtime hill and drops down into a banked turn, and another airtime hill. Then, the train climbs into an over-banked curve, then another airtime hill and a banked turn. The track switches from S&S track to the old Premier track, then makes a wide turn into the chain lift hill. At the top, the train turns and drops into a helix.

Trains

3 trains with 4 cars per train. Riders are arranged 2 across in 2 rows for a total of 16 riders per train.
