SooperDooperLooper is a steel roller coaster located at Hersheypark in Hershey, Pennsylvania, USA. It was built by Schwarzkopf and opened as the third modern roller coaster to feature a vertical loop. Great American Revolution at Six Flags Magic Mountain and Corkscrew at Cedar Point opened a year earlier in 1976.
History
SooperDooperLooper opened on May 8, 1977.[1] In 1989, the original Schwarzkopf trains were replaced with very similar rolling stock from Giovanola.[citation needed] For the 2012 season, these were in turn replaced with new trains from Gerstlauer. A Giovanola train was donated to the National Roller Coaster Museum. New magnetic trim brakes were also installed in the helix. This refurbishment coincided with a new logo and brand for SooperDooperLooper and the installation of an elevator to improve accessibility.[2]
SooperDooperLooper did not operate at all during 2020. The park stated that this was due to difficulties with completing necessary maintenance due to the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent travel restrictions. It reopened on April 2, 2021.[3]

SooperDooperLooper is a terrain roller coaster. The first drop leads directly into the vertical loop, which the train later passes through the center of. This is followed by a tunnel and the ride finishes with a helix. Like other early Schwarzkopf roller coasters, the vertical loop uses a triangular lattice of steel tubes.[4] Only a handful of Schwarzkopf roller coasters have this, as the company quickly switched to the more common box-shaped support.
Great Bear, which opened in 1998, passes over and underneath SooperDooperLooper several times.
