Storm Runner is a steel launched roller coaster located at Hersheypark in Hershey, Pennsylvania, USA. It opened on May 8, 2004 and is located in the Pioneer Frontier section of the park.

History

In August 2003, Hersheypark announced that it would build a new roller coaster for the 2004 season. The specifications were also revealed and the public were asked to choose between three names: Steel Stampede, Renegade, and Storm Runner.[1] In November, it was revealed that Storm Runner was the most popular choice. The logo was also revealed at this time.[2]

Construction was completed in March 2004.[3] Storm Runner opened on May 8, 2004.[4]

Storm Runner did not operate during 2020. It reopened on June 11, 2021.[5][6][7]

General Information

Storm Runner features a hydraulic launch, experienced as the train car first rolls onto the magnetic brake platform. The car launches from 0 to 72 mph in 2 seconds, just after a pre-recorded voice finishes saying "Now get ready, here we go." The car then climbs straight up an 150-foot-tall top hat and travels back down 180 feet at 75 mph before entering the first-ever cobra loop. Continuing on, the car twists and turns through tracks laid out all across Pioneer Frontier, entering a heartline roll and a snake dive before coming to a complete stop at the brake run.
