Welcome!

Welcome to the wiki!

Hello! Welcome to Coasterpedia! Thanks for your edit to the Flamingo Land page.

Please leave a message on my talk page if I can help with anything! -- MontagnaMagica (Talk) 22:31, March 3, 2012

Redirects

Hi! Sorry if it looked like your page was deleted. I didn't expect you to go to all the work of recreating it! Amazing! Anyway, it was simply redirect so that there was a space between "Corkscrew" and "(Flamingo Land)". I hope this makes sense. Talk to you later! MontagnaMagica|Talk 01:51, March 5, 2012 (UTC)

Nice to have you around!

I just wanted to thank you again for you editing here. It's nice to finally see a consistent editor that doesn't live in the United States. I hope you'll decide to stay, and bring your knowledge of the UK's coasters. Let any of us know if you need help with templates or formatting. We'll be happy to help you! MontagnaMagica|Talk 17:01, March 6, 2012 (UTC)

Sorry for the belated welcome!

Hi, my name is Kata89! I'm an Administrator here at Coasterpedia. If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask

Sorry for the belated welcome, but the Coaster still works!

me! Sorry for the belated welcome, though. I can't believe I haven't seen you. Well, enjoy your ride at Coasterpedia!

Hi Lachlan! You can add videos to articles pretty easily if you follow these steps.

1: Find the YouTube video you wish to use.

2: When you're editing the article, click on the "Video" button. It should be one of the buttons on the right.

3: Paste the URL of the video into the box and click "Next".

4: In the top box, enter a good name for the video. This is what will be used in the article. Here's an example format for the name: "Example Coaster (Example Park) - OnRide (Video Quality)"

5: Click the "Add Video" button.

6: Remove everything but "Video:Example Coaster (Example Park) - OnRide (Video Quality)"

7: Make sure that is located in the infobox row that says, "image".

I hope this helps! Feel free to check out some other articles if you need to an example. That's how I learned! MontagnaMagica|Talk 17:45, March 8, 2012 (UTC)

Park Categories

Hi Lachlan! I've noticed that you added a category named "Six Flags Magic Mountain". No offense, but I think that category is pretty unnecessary. We have the table on Six Flags Magic Mountain's page, as well as a table of all their coasters on each coaster's page. I'm thinking it's probably best to just delete the category altogether. If you disagree, please let me know! I'm always open to new ideas! MontagnaMagica|Talk 20:07, March 11, 2012 (UTC)

Ha ha! Wow! I've got the wrong person! It was BigSpinCoaster who created the park categories. My bad! I really should have paid more attention! Anyway, I'm deleting those right now. :P MontagnaMagica|Talk 20:55, March 11, 2012 (UTC)

Impressive

I'm amazed how many edits you can rack up. You have been extremely helpful! Ruler of the Coasters 10:15, March 14, 2012 (UTC)

.....You have only been on for a week? You remind me of Jabberjay. He got to 1000 edits in, like, 2-3 weeks. He left, though. Ruler of the Coasters 10:41, March 15, 2012 (UTC)

RCDB

That's a problem we've had for quite some time. I guess it's time we take care of it. Most of those RCDB pictures were uploaded by Kata89, so if we remove his images, we'll probably be OK. That's a starting point, at least. MontagnaMagica|Talk 16:09, March 15, 2012 (UTC)

Yes. This is a major problem for the wiki. Don't blame yourself for it, though. In fact, I'm sorta glad you did ask, because now, we can be free of worrying about copyright violations. It's time to get a fresh start! MontagnaMagica|Talk 16:47, March 15, 2012 (UTC)

Photo Deletion

Hey Lachlan! Thanks so much for your persistent help with the removal of all those copyrighted photos. This is going much faster than expected! Once they're all gone, I hope to find a site willing to loan us some images. MontagnaMagica|Talk 23:54, March 15, 2012 (UTC)

You shouldn't need to delete any pages. If you just keep removing the photos from the pages, that will be fine. MontagnaMagica|Talk 16:44, March 16, 2012 (UTC)

Legoland eh?

Legoland is targeted at kids, but still, i'm wishing they had thrill rides (looping roller coasters), etc. there.

I myself have never been to a Legoland in my life, but i have seen pictures of Legoland Deutchland, Legoland Florida and Legoland California.

I'm also working on a Legoland Paris in RollerCoaster Tycoon 3. -Alex- Roller Coasters FTW! 12:52, March 18, 2012 (UTC)

JoyRides Photos

I just want check and make sure you read this page before you uploaded the photos from JoyRides: http://www.joyrides.com/copyright.htm

We have to be extra careful about copyright laws now. It looks like it's OK to use photos from JoyRides, though, since we aren't reselling the images for profit. MontagnaMagica|Talk 20:55, March 18, 2012 (UTC)

Page Names

Hey there! The page names should be written with the full park's name (Six Flags Great Adventure). The reason it's inconsistent is because early on in the life of this wiki, I thought it was better to not have the "Six Flags" in the page's title. I've since, obviously, changed my mind. Featured Article

I think Corkscrew (Silverwood) would be a great choice for featured article! We need to expand it some more, though. It is pretty historic, after all. MontagnaMagica|Talk 18:08, March 29, 2012 (UTC)

Oh! LOL! Yeah, that's a lot better! I think we'll probably go with Corkscrew (Cedar Point), then. Regardless, updating Corkscrew (Silverwood)'s article would be nice... MontagnaMagica|Talk 18:14, March 29, 2012 (UTC)

Year Categories

That's a tricky question. I'm glad you brought it up! The most consistent way to handle it is to add the year it was originally constructed; its first home. That's when the track was created and it was put together. The other opening were just shipping the parts.

So, to make things (hopefully. LOL!) clear: The article should be named after the most recent location and the year category should state the year of its original opening day. I'm undecided about how to work it in the infobox... Want to discuss it on a blog or in forums? MontagnaMagica|Talk 04:18, March 31, 2012 (UTC)

Lachlan, you are a good friend and an awesome editor, but please do not remake previously deleted articles (such as Test which was previously deleted).

Coaster Custom Wiki

I have not made Coaster Custom Wiki, yet. But I want to. I want to start over with RCCW, and make another Custom Wiki. Back when I made RCCW, I didn't get Wikia code and all what not. I personnally think I ruined the wiki. I would like to start over. Of course, you'll be made admin/beau. Please tell me what you think. Ruler of the Coasters 10:54, April 24, 2012 (UTC)

Yes, its just like RCCW. I'll create it.() And okay. But you need to be MORE active on WRW (Water Ride Wiki) than on here. Ruler of the Coasters 11:13, April 25, 2012 (UTC)

I don't think so. I think we need to copy the articles from RCCW over to CCW. Then, we need to get CCW a backround, and so on. Ruler of the Coasters 10:20, April 30, 2012 (UTC)

Chain Lift or Lift Hill or Chain Lift Lift Hill?

The reason I made that change was because infoboxes normally only have one item per row. Chain lifts are obviouly a type of lift hill, and it says so on chain lift's page. MontagnaMagica|Talk 18:56, May 24, 2012 (UTC)

Wikia

Hey. It's me: Trackstar. I have made a wiki about Cedar Point and I was wondering if you wanted to join. You do not have to if you want but heres a link:

Template:Trains

I've been re-working the template a little. You can see my version @ User:Pulse_daemon/Sandbox. I only worked on the first. You'll see it's different from the version currently used. Tell me if it works how you want.--Pulse daemon (Talk) 18:15, July 2, 2012 (UTC)

I believe it's fixed. The template now features the updated version. For the second parameter, it only accepts "train", "car", and "cars". Anything else defaults to train. Consider updating the documentation. Links to Train and Car are automatically made. Pluralisation is done automatically. If there are still any problems, contact me.--Pulse daemon (Talk) 21:14, July 2, 2012 (UTC)

I believe the S is now lowercased. I also hyphenated the "single-". If there are any small changes like that left, it should be very easy for you to change it.

Have you been to Safari Land! Firestar25

Wow, Lachlan! Your article on Werner Stengel is amazing! Definitely deserves to be the next featured article! Great job on a much-needed article! MontagnaMagica|Talk

Flamingo Land Wiki

I don't know if the wiki's related enough to be put on the main page along with Flat Ride Wiki and Water Ride Wiki. Seems a bit out of place. I say you should post a blog about it, and then I'll post the blog on the wiki's Facebook page. Stuff like that to get your wiki noticed. MontagnaMagica|Talk 18:09, July 26, 2012 (UTC)

Hey Lachlan! It's Firestar! I have an idea. Firestar25

I say that we create a page that lists a of the roller coasters in the world tallest to shortest. What do you think?

Video Naming

There are no strict rules on naming videos. I like having the 240, 360, 480, 720, 1080p tags there, for reference, but we can go without too! It does save some work in the future if we need to update a video. Now I need to get to bed; it's late! Sheesh! ;) MontagnaMagica|Talk 09:08, August 6, 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for deleting that page, and sorry I did not know that there was already a page for it. Thanks anyway. Firestar25 (talk) 02:18, August 7, 2012 (UTC)

Hey Lachkan. I have a question for you. When you are making a page that lists roller coasters how do the make the the names blue so that you can click on it to go to the coaster's page? Please reply soon. Thanks, Firestar25 (talk) 19:38, August 11, 2012 (UTC)

Thanks, I also have another question, when you put a message like i'm doing right now how do you make your own row for example a title saying whats up. Please help me on that. Thanks, Firestar25 (talk) 20:51, August 11, 2012 (UTC)

Thanks!!!!

Thanks again. I think that yo have answered all of my questions, if I have anymore I will let you know Firestar25 (talk) 21:15, August 11, 2012 (UTC)

Ok, don't worry I will put more effort into it, thanks Firestar25 (talk) 14:52, August 12, 2012 (UTC)

It would be quite interesting, since Kalahari has a water coaster I've been on, it's called the "Zip Coaster".

Category:Steel Roller Coasters

That makes sense. Go ahead and continue doing it that way. I don't really see the point of trying to find a steel coaster through the category page anyway, because of the sheer size of the list. LOL! The Steel roller coaster page itself shouldn't be put in that category because it's not a steel roller coaster. That would be like calling the word "bird" a bird. O_o

Also, I granted your rights on Flat Ride Wiki. Thanks for all your immense help! There's going to be an announcement sometime in the future about the future of our three theme park wikis. It has to do with a partnership, so stay in tune! MontagnaMagica|Talk 05:06, October 6, 2012 (UTC)

Signature and Spotlight

Don't worry about, Lachlan! I completely forgot about removing the image! Anyway, thanks for the head's up. And about the spotlight...I have to say we need to wait.

This wiki has been spotlighted 3-4 times already. And, we have just were on spot light a few months ago. (And it's kinda unfair for the other wiki's) That's why mont and I agreed a while back to spot light once a year. Preferbly when the amusement parks are starting to open up for the season. But good question!

Unfortunately, I haven't ridden it. The last few times I've visited the park, it was closed. I've been there while it was still open, but I was too short to ride, and I was too scared, at the time.

I think the photo gallery looks just fine in Monobook. Any other concern for Monobook compatibility? Keep in mind that it is only used by a small fraction of users. MontagnaMagica|Talk 18:38, December 10, 2012 (UTC)

Why do we now have categories for cities and counties? Unless there are several parks in one city, they are pointless. If it's an automatic thing, then we can talk. MontagnaMagica|Talk 06:26, December 11, 2012 (UTC)

Yes - I'm going to add some more basic pages and stuff first, then we can gradually add more content on to them. I like this sort of thing alot! Also, your opinion on Wikia is probably different to mine. On Wikkii, your wiki will look like Wikipedia (it will have no fixed width and sidebar will be on the left). Also, features such as message walls and article comments doen't exist on Wikkii, so if you want to keep those, you will need to stay on Wikia. Also, Happy New Year to you too! (Did you see the wiki-wide message?). Lachlan5963 (Talk) 15:57, December 31, 2012 (UTC)
Yes I did see the wiki wide message! Oh and thanks for the Super Mario Bros page on mu wiki! Firestar25 (talk) 16:52, December 31, 2012 (UTC)

Defunct Coaster Categories

Funny... The tables have turned and now I'm the one asking you questions! LOL! Anyway, my question is; should defunct roller coasters also get the "Steel roller coasters" category? That is all. MontagnaMagica|Talk 07:56, January 12, 2013 (UTC)

Yes - they will always be steel, defunct or not. If the Infobox is done correctly, it should add the steel category for you, however you still new to add the defunct one yourself (I might make that one automate at some point also). I should really write a help page on the Infobox :) Lachlan5963 (Talk) 09:03, January 12, 2013 (UTC)

Yes, I like that much better. But still slightly awkward...Although if you like it, it really isn't a problem.

Oh, and I just saw what your doing in 2013 with talk pages. I suggest that you don't do that for the simple reason of convenience. When you reply to this on your page, I never receive a notification about it. So when that happens, I usually forget to reply. But if you don't want to do that, that's fine. Ruler of the Coasters (talk) 16:34, January 16, 2013 (UTC)

It's a major flaw of the MediaWiki system - What I am going to make a template that tells you that I've replied. About the logo, it's the problem of the difference between Oasis and Monobook. Aligning it to the left looks fine in Monobook, but looks crap in Oasis. Whereas cantering it looks good in Oasis, but waists loads of space in Monobook. I might be able to make it centred in Oasis and left-aligned in Monobook... Lachlan5963 (Talk) 16:49, January 16, 2013 (UTC)
You know, the "flaw" is corrected by Wikia's "Message Wall". However, I know you seem to think Wikia is evil, so nevermind that. ;)
In actuality, I like the message wall, but I'm not sure if we're all ready for such a big change, so we'll just switch if we absolutely have to switch. MontagnaMagica|Talk 05:46, January 17, 2013 (UTC)
That's the only good thing about message walls! I think you are the only admin here who likes them however. Out of curiosity, if it was just you here, would you have Article Comments and the new Forums enabled too? Lachlan5963 (Talk) 16:46, January 17, 2013 (UTC)
No! Article comments are pretty unprofessional, IMO. The forums are all right, but pretty much unnecessary, so that would also be a no. MontagnaMagica|Talk 19:36, January 17, 2013 (UTC)
Couldn't agree with you more :) Article Comments are just asking for spam from anons. Lachlan5963 (Talk) 19:39, January 17, 2013 (UTC)

My user page

My user page exists because I have performed some on this wiki. Please don't remove my user page as it helps to clear up confusion of who I am and why I am deleting pages on this wiki. Rappy <staff/> 20:08, January 20, 2013 (UTC)

My misunderstanding - I was doing a bit of a cleanup today, and deleted user pages when they didn't have any contributions. I'd completely forgotten deletions don't show up on Special:Contributions.Lachlan5963 (Talk) 20:20, January 20, 2013 (UTC)
Per Rappy's reasoning above, I am going to restore the user pages of TyA, Callofduty4, and URL - the former two have performed actions on this wiki before, and the latter created their userpages to avoid any confusion from their actions here. -- Sactage (talk) 20:51, January 20, 2013 (UTC)

Userpages

Your policy on userpages is really intelligent. I'm sure it really helps with editor retention. --Shockstorm (talk) 21:02, March 8, 2013 (UTC)

Thanks, Shockstorm! We hope to see you editing around here soon! If you decide not to stay, we'll likely just delete your userpages to save space here and avoid confusion. MontagnaMagica|Talk 05:23, March 9, 2013 (UTC)

Its and It's

Sorry, Lachlan! You can at least take comfort in the fact that you're not alone. Everyone is mixing the two words up nowadays! In fact, I even learned it backwards a couple years ago. LOL! Instead of explaining it to you, I'll just direct you to this helpful website. It's a good website that describes its goal very well! ;)

Good point. And I wouldn't consider Oasis a 'waste of time' its very nice looking. And, I get an avatar! :D Ruler of the Coasters (talk) 22:59, March 18, 2013 (UTC)

Spotlights

Hey, Lachlan! Do you have any idea why the spotlights aren't showing on our wiki. Is it just me? I do see them on other wikis... I'm asking you because I know you messed around with the CSS before, so perhaps you have an idea. Any thoughts? Thanks! MontagnaMagica|Talk 07:16, March 27, 2013 (UTC)

I was mucking about with CSS and hid them, as I felt rather pissed-off that we must have adverts to other wikis. However, Rappy's gone an reverted most of the CSS and JS I put on here anyway, so you should be able to see them again.
Which brings me on to my next point. I really think we should leave Wikia. Now. A lot of my CSS and JS was to stop people uploading images without going through the image uploaded. I'm sick-fed-up of people uploading crappy pictures that I end up deleting. Wikia are trying to make admin-ing a wiki harder. An they're making reading articles harder. And if I log-out and turn off Adblock, merely viewing the wiki is hard and takes forever. If we do opt to switch, I'll do everything. I just want Coasterpedia to be able to do what it wants and not what Wikia wants. Pleeeeeeease! Lachlan5963 (Talk) 16:05, March 27, 2013 (UTC)

Yeah, I'm really excited to ride it later this year. I may only visit one partial day in favor of Discovery Kingdom, but I'll be sure to ride this and Tatsu! Thanks for the link! :D MontagnaMagica|Talk 18:59, April 4, 2013 (UTC)

Anon can't receive messages

Yes, that is true. However, I know some probably would check their talk page anyway. I know I did when I was an anon! :P MontagnaMagica|Talk 16:56, April 20, 2013 (UTC)

Your right, there really is no point. Hopefully soon they will 'un' block you. But I take it you cant transfer all the files from this wiki over to the new one? Ruler of the Coasters (talk) 15:24, May 9, 2013 (UTC)

Photograph

(It's me, Kata89) This is a really cool place, Lachelan. I love the dragster at the bottom of pages. Nice touch. ;) I would love to join, but between Coasterpedia, Guitar wiki, and my actual life, I don't have time to edit both wiki's. But this is a really nice place you got here.

I'll continue to send you messages through this talk page when it seems fit. Congrats on a great wiki, can wait for it to be in shape for us to partner with you! 99.170.102.174 12:32, 12 July 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]

That will be cool adding all those different rides at the bottom. And okay, thanks. (About letting us use your photos) I'm going to be taking another trip to Cedar Point this year, and I will get more photos then. Again, you are welcome to those, too. But gee wiz, how in the name of Sam Hill did you get that many articles written already? 99.170.102.174 12:53, 12 July 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Oh wait a second, I thought it said you had 1,380 articles. I knew you imported all the articles and history to this wiki, but and after looking around the wiki, I kinda figured the images arent' there. But wait, I don't quite get your sentence "I can querty type" Like, I mean, I can type fast without looking at the keyboard? Is that all you mean, or was there another reason that I am not getting?

Oh, and I'll help you with the photos. Anytime I upload a file to Coasterpedia, I'll upload it here. That should help get you a lot of photos. 99.170.102.174 13:08, 12 July 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hiya!

Hey Lachlan, I just came here to talk to you.

I set up a new bot at the Coasterpedia wikia site to replace LoopingStar.

Things have been going smoothly, and also, I found a new interest. -Alex 16:24, October 12, 2013

Hello, glad to finally talk to you (It's been a while), I don't know if this will surprise you or not, but I still check the roller coaster 'wikia' everyday, mainly hoping that Wikia screw up, so you guys can join me here. I've seen the activity drop quite a bit recently, as Mont is busy with work and college (I talk to him over Facebook).
I assume your using AutoWikiBrowser to power the bot (I use it too). Can I give a little advice: you've added a template called "Template:Dead end", but you haven't created it yet - You'll want to add some text to Template:Dead_end about dead-ends. Also, I saw you removed some redlinks on a couple of pages - Redlinks encourage new pages to be created - I assume you realized this since you only removed them from two pages.
About your interest, South Park is popular in the UK too - I know many people who watch it (along with Family Guy). I don't watch it (I hardly ever watch TV), so I can't really comment - sorry about that. Since your into wiki-ing though, do you edit the South Park Archives?
Anyway, sorry for my long reply, I tend to talk lots to people when I haven't for a while. Just to say, if you ever feel like I did about Wikia, you're more than welcome to join me here. And an important note: Try not to mess up with the bot, and (more importantly), always check it worked correctly, and fix it if it doesn't. In the past, I've made 100s of bot edits with typos, and 100s more trying to remedy them.
Thanks for contacting me, Lachlan5963 (talk) 17:24, 12 October 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]
EDIT: A couple questions for you. Firstly, where does the name "Juggernog96000" come from? Is it an American thing? Also, (and I've been wondering this ever since I joined a year and a half ago), you have two names on your profile - Alex-Sixand or Alex Surge - which one is your real name, and what does the other one mean? Thanks Lachlan5963 (talk) 17:32, 12 October 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yes, I DO edit the South Park Archives :) Now about your questions:
1. Juggernog is a perk from Call of Duty's zombies mode.
2. Alex Surge is my real name.
-Alex (19:16, October 12, 2013)
Thanks - That puts my mind at rest lol. Lachlan5963 (talk) 19:21, 12 October 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Do you want a bot for this wiki? Btw, if Mont sees this, just tell him I mostly go here to keep in touch with you.
-Alex
I still use User:LoopingStar here, so I don't need another bot. To be honest, I think Mont really doesn't mind whether you edit here or not, but I'll tell him that, if there ever is an issue. Lachlan5963 (talk) 19:41, 12 October 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Getting Ready to Roll!

Hey, Lachlan! I'm just about ready to start editing here (again?)! Is there any project in particular you'd like me to start on, or should I just start adding some articles?

I'm planning to edit at least for a few minutes each day, depending on how much work needs to be done.

MontagnaMagica (talk) 18:57, 21 May 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hello! Two things ongoing at the moment are:
Apart from that, not many specific tasks. Of course, you can just hit random page a few times until you find something that needs updating. Thanks :) Lachlan (Talk | contribs) 19:07, 21 May 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Record Holder Templates

What am I supposed to put in for obscure records like "First Roller Coaster with 8 Inversions"? MontagnaMagica (talk) 06:54, 27 May 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]

At the moment, just use inversions. I haven't added support for numbers of inversions yet but I'll hopefully get roun to it in the future.Lachlan (Talk | contribs) 07:22, 27 May 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Coaster Wiki?

Had you noticed this wiki before? http://coaster.wikia.com/wiki/Coaster_Wiki MontagnaMagica (talk) 21:08, 26 June 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I think I have - I was sure that our wiki started out as "Coaster Wiki" though. And Beemerboyz803 used to edit this wiki! It's certainly interesting. Lachlan (Talk | contribs) 21:15, 26 June 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Also, it hasn't all been lifted straight from Wikipedia. Looks like the user put quite a bit of effort into it, before abandoning it like most Wikia wikis. Lachlan (Talk | contribs) 21:18, 26 June 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Projects?

Hey, hey, hey, Lachlan! I'm looking for things to do here. Do you have any specific projects worth working on, or shall I just start adding some missing parks? I have today and tomorrow off from work. However, I'll be going on a vacation next week. MontagnaMagica (talk) 22:36, 30 July 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi Mont, I don't think there's anything ongoing so if there's anything missing you want to add that's great - I've found that new pages, particularly about new or less popular things bring in alot of visitors. Also, I've done the record holders boxes for inversions but I think some pages are still missing them so if you come across one it would be handy if you could update it.
We should talk on Facebook soon - I feel like its been ages! It's a shame you're away next week as I'm away too - nobody will be able to check on the wiki!
Also, there's a couple of new "social" extensions that I've been looking at which make up a comments system, user avatars, a profile to fill out (like on Wikia) and a blogging tool. If you're active today then you could maybe give me some feedback.
Thank you! Lachlan (Talk | contribs) 09:28, 31 July 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Greetings

Hi, I just wanted to let you know that I spent a little time updating the article about Mini-Comet at Hersheypark. It is now up-to-date with correct opening and closing years (open: 1974, close: 1978) and manufacturer (B. A. Schiff & Associates, not Miler Manufacturing), maximum height and drop, and that it also surprisingly has 0 inversions.

Have a great day! Best wishes,
--Hmich176 (talk) 18:03, 6 November 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hello, thanks for your edits to the Hersheypark and Mini-Comet pages - they are much appreciated! I'm rather surprised how out of date the information on that article was - RCDB must have updated its information since it was written.
Welcome to Coasterpedia, I hope you enjoy the wiki. Kind regards, Lachlan (Talk | contribs) 19:56, 6 November 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thank you for the welcome! The reason why the information on the page was outdated was due to lack of information prior to recent weeks. I have been doing extensive research on the history of Hersheypark and it's rides (for all that we know thanks to already published efforts, you'd be amazed how much there was - and still is - to discover!). I was able to find sources indicating the years the ride was in the park, and I was able to conclude who manufactured the ride. I then forwarded the information to RCDB, which allowed them to update their page. I happened to come across this Wiki yesterday, so I decided to join and help update the pages!
Best wishes,
--Hmich176 (talk) 15:00, 7 November 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I've been looking at your work over on Wikipedia; that's some good research. Did you take those photographs of the Mini-Comet? Do you mind if I upload them to Coasterpedia, as you licensed them under a Creative Commons license? You may upload them yourself if you wish and use the template {{cc-by-sa}}. Another one of the old Hersehypark photos was uploaded here a while ago, I've embedded it here. Once again, thank you! Lachlan (Talk | contribs) 16:15, 9 November 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Just wanted to let you know there's Refreshed 3.* (actually quite a while but I forgot to say tbh heh) in case you're interested of updating the version for the default mediawiki skin in the backend. :) You can read more about it at http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Skin:Refreshed. If you need help just ask me, and if I can't give any assistance you can also ask Adam or George :D

Hope you like it, if you want to view examples you can check out the gallery on that page or again, some of the wikis on the Brickimedia network.

Hello, I've been following the development for a while and it looks great- I am just too lazy to update the software and skin LOL. 3.x does look good, although I'll have to get used to using one sidebar again after having two sidebars for over a year. Since I'm free all next week, I might finally update to 1.24 and that'll be a good opportunity to upgrade the skin, so thank you for the reminder :)

The Return

Hey. So this is a certain Alex after an I don't even know how long anymore hiatus and i'd honestly like to say i'm back, although I do admit to spouting lies about a few things (coaster/theme park count). I was young and stupid (13 years old actually) and I sincerely regret that and want to go back and slap my former self in the face for being so stupid.

But yeah, I've been getting way more into roller coasters again recently. I am about to head over to Six Flags Over Georgia and Six Flags Great Adventure for the first time, and I also recently went to Six Flags New England for the first time and Wicked Cyclone is now my new favorite roller coaster (not even Superman is as good as the thing in my opinion!). I also got to visit the two Jolly Rogers again and actually ride everything there (except Sea Serpent) and I think the Looping Star is better than any Pinfari ever. I didn't find it to be rough or anything, but that's probably just me. So basically, I will have visited nine, maybe ten or even eleven amusement parks in one year (I have season passes to Kings Dominion and will be going to Six Flags America, Luna Park and Great Escape are also being considered).

So yeah, apologies for being a lying 13 year old (i'm different now; I had some sense knocked into me, promise!) and its great to be back.

Oh, and the new "Ashley" name...loooong story.

-Ashley (talk) 11:19, 1 August 2016 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Re: Re: The Return

Admin rights would be OK by me. And on the topic of Pinfari's, Jolly Roger's Looping Star is amazingly smooth when you take into account that its a Pinfari. I also recently went to Six Flags Over Georgia and am preparing to go to Six Flags Great Adventure; Dare Devil Dive is amazing. I can't WAIT for El Toro and especially Kingda Ka.

And its a shame Kata isn't around anymore and Montagna is rarely around anymore.

Bugs, Issue Trackers/Github

Have you considered creating a project on Github for bug tracking? This would help in the future as instead of having all bugs listed on your talk page, you have an organized CMS (Content Management System) actually meant for issue tracking for site-specific issues. :) If you'd like, I can help you go through the Github project creation process, although it's relatively simple ;)

  1. Go to https://github.com/organizations/new
  2. Fill in the following fields (the email is whatever email you have that you want to put in, no one will be able to see it)
  3. If you don't want any private repos, just keep the default option :)

Since I'm pretty sure you already know how to create a repo, you could possibly name the issue tracking repo at Coasterpedia/issues or Coasterpedia/Coasterpedia (similar to Brickimedia's old repo, which was located at Brickimedia/brickimedia).

I have some issues that I'd like to report to you for now (but I'll move them over there if you decide to create one!) Since I deal with code and MediaWiki (and as you know I'm the system administrator at Brickimedia) I can help you figure out the source of the bugs and try to fix 'em :) You already know Jack Phoenix is really smart too (she's basically a code wizard xD) so you can always ask her too haha :P

  1. Sign up bug (Special:Userlogin?type=signup) - The Create account title is incorrectly positioned on latest Chrome version (chrome v52) on Windows 10. https://cloud.githubusercontent.com/assets/4723983/17677999/ef9ab87c-62fa-11e6-9324-df55c62eb619.png Perhaps this is custom Refreshed CSS onwiki at MediaWiki:Refreshed.css or MediaWiki:Refreshed.js?
  1. WikiFont avatar misalignment when signed in and out: I believe this issue might be site-specific since I recall you having a customized version of Refreshed?
  1. iOS issue: I remember you reporting this on Jack's page, and we've worked in together and also tested the same thing with on a site at social-tools.wmflabs.org (site for MediaWiki testing) and we've concluded thaat this is site-specific. Have you considered making a backup and then replacing it with the latest version of Refreshed?

Sorry this is so long haha, again I am more than happy to help fix these problems (the reasons I reported it to you is because again I think these are site-specific and customization, but if we conclude it's not I'm more than happy to move them upstream on Phabricator!)

Hope you're having a nice day :) SamanthaNguyen (talk) 20:47, 15 August 2016 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hey!

I created a skin called Material a while ago, and since I know you love Google's Material Design visual language (heheh :P), I thought I should tell you about it! It's not actually "stable" yet, it's still in the beta stage but I'm working on getting it stable. If you want, you can test it out at: http://social-tools.wmflabs.org/wiki/Main_Page?useskin=material

There's still some bugs, but later this week when I get some time I plan on fixing them. But feel free to test it out if you'd like and let me know what you think of it when you have time :-) Thanks!

SamanthaNguyen (talk) 22:21, 5 February 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thanks very much for the suggestions! I'll try to get those implemented :-) The idea I had for the title was that it would be in the content card header section, but /then/ on scroll it moves into the global site header area (this is the part that you suggested). What do you think? Also slightly unrelated/related: I'm willing to help work on this wiki and make templates more material-like, e.g this is something I created a while ago at http://codepen.io/SamanthaNguyen/full/dXRkKy/ , where you can see the code in http://codepen.io/SamanthaNguyen/pen/dXRkKy . There's some elements that aren't supported by MediaWiki, but I could easily slightly rewrite it and port it over to a MediaWiki template - personally I think it could work for an infobox. Thoughts? :D

Re:Flat spin or Corkscrew?

Hey, Lachlan. Happy New Year to you too. To me wing overs and corkscrews seem to look the same too. The only difference that I have appreciated is that wing overs are only used in the Batman model and corkscrews in the rest of the B&M Inverted Coasters. Maybe wing over is a name that B&M uses for naming that element in that specific model.

Hi Lachlan

Hi Lachlan. Sorry to bother you, but I just wanted to ask; how come you've reverted the default units on Wicker Man to metric? Thanks MattyMoo March 23, 2019

Hello Matt, it's ok! I presumed you changed the units because the infobox was showing wrong values when |units=metric was used, as user:Airtime was doing. I changed it back after I fixed the infobox, as recently I decided to switch all non-American articles to metric by default. What do you think? Do you use the dropdown on the sidebar? Am curious to know your thoughts!
I will admit part of the reason is that I'm an engineering student and metric measurements are just better! haha Best wishes, Lachlan (Talk | contribs) (an admin) 05:43, 24 March 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi Lachlan, Thanks for the reply! Fair enough; I've always preferred imperial for coaster units, but each to their own, I suppose! MattyMoo (talk) 20:37, 28 March 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I will admit, I am more used to the imperial units too. But over here in Singapore they don't do miles/feet at all. I think the UK is stuck half way, unfortunately. Lachlan (Talk | contribs) (an admin) 14:22, 29 March 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Question about "images"

I've noticed on a lot of pages with images listed that there isn't a consistent way that they're listed. Some say "images" while others say "gallery". Do we want a standard way to label these? MexicanLlama400 (talk) 19:02, 17 October 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hello, Lachlan

Hi, Lachlan. I'm Kw6sTheater. I found Coasterpedia a year ago or so whilst browsing online, and I've got to say, I quite appreciate the work. It's even more customized than RCDB, and I really enjoy how anybody can help in writing articles as well as adding their own information to it. Keep up the good work; I'm happy to help out here.

Wikimedia Commons

Hey, Lachlan! Do I need to use Special:Upload for Wikimedia Commons and UploadWizard for Flickr? -- Loch Ness (talk) 1:53 PM, February 8, 2020 (CT)

Hello, for Wikimedia Commons use Special:Upload. For Flickr photos under CC-BY and CC-BY-SA licenses use UploadWizard. For other Flickr photos, please use Special:Upload. You need to fill out a template like this for Wikimedia Commons:
{{Image documentation
|description=
|date=
|author=
|source=Wikimedia Commons
}}
{{Wikimedia Commons|<!--Enter URL here -->}}
{{cc-by-sa}}
Any more questions just ask me. Feel free to join the Discord Chat (link in the sidebar) if you prefer as you may get a quicker reply there. Thanks Lachlan (Talk | contribs) (an admin) 20:07, 8 February 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
One more thing, for adding Flickr photos under CC-BY and CC-BY-SA like the ones you added just now, it is easier when using Upload Wizard to click "Share images from Flickr" which lets you upload the file using the Flickr URL. Hope this helps! Lachlan (Talk | contribs) (an admin) 20:47, 8 February 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Completed attractions list

Hey, I removed the large list from the Bennett page as it is too difficult to maintain, and also a bit messy. I think only a list on each individual 'product' page is necessary:

e.g. https://coasterpedia.net/wiki/Sky_Diver_(Bennett_product)

Referencing from books & magazines

Hey! Seeing as I have plenty of time on my hands at the moment, I was thinking of referencing many of my additions using my library of books & magazines. Could you send me a template for adding a reference from written material so I can get started? Stay safe!

Flat Rides

Hey, Lachlan! You need to add all flat rides to the amusement park navboxes, including Adventuredome! Could you please do it? -- Loch Ness

Renamed account

Hi, sorry to bother you. My userpage on the Roller Coaster Wiki was imported here. In 2017, I renamed my account on Wikia (see the history here) but the page here still has my old name. Would you be able to move my old userpage to my current account name? Thank you so much. Puppeteer (talk) 20:32, 29 April 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thank you! Yeah, it's definitely been a while! Puppeteer (talk) 02:05, 5 May 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Moving pages

Hi Lachlan, It’s my first time coming back onto the site in a while, and I was wondering; why am I suddenly seemingly unable to move pages, and where is the option to move pages on the new site layout? Thanks, Matt Matt N (talk) 15:51, 21 March 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi Matt! I am not Lachlan, but i can answer your question; click on the three dots in the right corner of an article, and some more options should show up, one of them is the move option. I don't know why moving isn't working for you, it does for me. QDude24 (talk) 15:56, 21 March 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hello Matt so I think QDude is thinking of the Refreshed skin however I can see you're using the mobile skin (MobileFrontend, the same as on Wikipedia) as it adds this info to the edit summary. I'm looking myself now and it doesn't appear to have the option to move a page - no wonder you couldn't find it! So my recommendation is to go to the very bottom of the page and click "Desktop", and the site will then look exactly as it did before. Then you'll see the three dots button like QDude described where there will be the option to move a page. If you prefer the MobileFrontend view (the current default), you can change back to it any time by pressing "Mobile view" at the bottom of the page.
Let me know if this works, I can film my screen and sent it to you if you still can't find the move function. Best wishes Lachlan (Talk | contribs) 17:30, 21 March 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Ah right; thank you very much! And sorry for my late reply! Matt N (talk) 19:07, 8 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Video Problem

Hey, Lachlan! There is a problem with the video on the roller coaster and ride infoboxes. Could you please fix it for me? Loch Ness (talk) 15:38, 17 October 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hello, thanks letting me know, this was caused by the update to the software yesterday. I'll see what I can do tonight. Lachlan (Talk | contribs) 16:00, 17 October 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

To Lachlan

Its ST1! I had to create a WHOLE new account so I could keep adding. My new user is the same except there is a far off period. If you could find out my password for ST1, please tell me. That would be great! ST1 . (talk) 16:15, 28 October 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thanks! ST1 . (talk) 16:16, 28 October 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hmmm, did you sign up for the old account using an email address? If not, you'll need to contact me privately by email or Discord, leave me a message here to confirm its you, and I'll send you a tempoary password. Lachlan (Talk | contribs) 16:23, 28 October 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
K ST1 . (talk) 19:43, 30 October 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I'll assume you're not fussed then, as I don't think you've contacted me? Lachlan (Talk | contribs) 20:16, 30 October 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hey! Could you please fix the issues with the Flickr Upload Wizard mode in the Upload file option? Loch Ness (talk) 00:50, 23 November 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Ah, sure. I didn't realise it was broken, it must be due to the software update earlier today. I'll have a look! Lachlan (Talk | contribs) 00:52, 23 November 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Metric/Imperial footers

The imperial to metric footers are not working properly. When I change the units at the bottom of the page, they stay at the default units and don't change. Is it a bug, are they not working properly, or something else? Griffysboy (talk) 19:25, 24 November 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hello, could you let me know what device and browser you are using, and what the article is that you're looking at? I'll try and fix it whatever the problem is, but right now they're working fine for me so I'm not sure what is causing the problem at your end. Lachlan (Talk | contribs) 20:18, 24 November 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
No unit conversions on any articles are working, I am using Google chrome, dell desktop LR. Griffysboy (talk) 20:45, 24 November 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hmmm perhaps you have blocked cookies? The feature uses a cookie to remember whether your unit choice from page to page. Do you have Discord? If so, I can send you a video of how it works on my end. Lachlan (Talk | contribs) 23:41, 24 November 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Okay, on further inspection it doesn't appear to work for me on the default skin (Refreshed), but it is working on the mobile skin and on Monobook. I'll see if I can fix it tomorrow Lachlan (Talk | contribs) 00:17, 25 November 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
