Visual editor is an alternative to the source code editor which does not require knowledge of wikitext.

Coasterpedia has walkthroughs, to help guide new editors around the visual editor:

Your first edit with VisualEditor (launching VisualEditor, modifying and adding text, reviewing changes)
VisualEditor basics (bold and italic text, creating links and adding headings)
Creating an article from scratch with VisualEditor (adding templates, categories and a citation)
