While it is useful for writing text and adding images, manipulation of templates is more difficult. Visual editor is an alternative to the source code editor which does not require knowledge of wikitext.

By default, VisualEditor will open when the "edit" link is pressed. "Edit source" opens the source code (wikitext) editor. The VisualEditor is not available on mobile.

Advantages:

  • For basic edits, no knowledge of wikitext is required
  • Image galleries and references may be quicker to add using the VisualEditor, especially for someone unfamiliar with the syntax
