It may be especially useful for new users who have not edited before and those who only need to make simple edits. While it is useful for writing text and adding images, manipulation of templates is more difficult. While completely optional, Coasterpedia still recommends that regular editors familiarise themselves with wikitext as creating complex articles, tables and templates is much quicker using the source editor.

Visual editor is an alternative to the source code editor which does not require knowledge of wikitext.

By default, VisualEditor will open when the "edit" link is pressed. "Edit source" opens the source code (wikitext) editor. The VisualEditor is not available on mobile.

Advantages:

  • For basic edits, no knowledge of wikitext is required
  • Image galleries and references may be quicker to add using the VisualEditor, especially for someone unfamiliar with the syntax
