The ride was originally intended to open in the summer of 2002, but was initially delayed due to construction problems. It would be the last coaster by Custom Coasters International. During the New Mexico Rattler's construction, the company would close its offices and would file for bankruptcy the same year. The park subsequently brought construction in house and New Mexico Rattler opened on September 28, 2002.[1]

Single train with 6 cars. In each car, riders are arranged 2 across in 2 rows for a total of 24 riders per train. The train was built by Philadelphia Toboggan Coasters, Inc.[2]
