''Spinball Whizzer'' is the only Xtended SC 2200 ever built by Maurer.
When the ride opened in 2004, it was themed as a giant pinball machine. This theme was changed when SEGA sponsered the ride in 2010. It was then themed around Sonic The Hedgehog.<ref>http://old.towerstimes.co.uk/attractions/adventureland/spinball.htm</ref>

Spinball Whizzer is a steel spinning roller coaster located at Alton Towers in Alton, Staffordshire, England, UK. It was manufactured by Maurer Rides and opened in 2004.

History[edit | edit source]

Spinball Whizzer opened on March 27, 2004.[1] The ride was loosely based on a giant pinball machine.

For 2010, the roller coaster was repainted and renamed Sonic Spinball as part of a three year partnership with SEGA which also saw Sonic themed rooms added to the Alton Towers Hotel.[2] This was extended by another three years, with the ride returning to its original theme for the 2016 season.[3] It also received new theme music for 2016 from IMAScore.[4]

Spinball Whizzer is the only Xtended SC 2200 ever built by Maurer.
