This page is to discuss new ideas and proposals that change how categories or ride types on the wiki work. Create a new section using the box below and detail your suggestions.

New ride categories

Roller coasters and Water slides currently have advanced infoboxes with some auto-categorising possibilities. The first part of this proposal is currently already active; Category1 can now be used to add the ride type, which will also auto-categorise the page. This makes editors able to delete the now redundant ride type category on the pages once Category1 is in use.

What other additions could this add?

The addition of categories could allow for better categorisation of ride pages, similair to coaster and slide pages. I have currently added three categories as tests at this point. This excludes the Indoor and Enclosed categories that where already present, but now integrated in the category system.

  • Twin

Currently split in Triple and Quartet rides, but this might all be fused in one category. I am thinking of Multi rides but not sure yet. This category is reserved for rides that, as the name suggests, have multiple rides on the same plot, sharing an entrance/queue. This is mostly done by parks for extra capacity. Think of simulators or S&S drop towers that commonly have multiple installations.

  • Interactive

This category might be one that is too vague. But the main idea was for grouping rides where the riders can influence the ride experience directly. Think of shooter dark rides, sky fly's, jet's, splash battles etc. Like I said, this one might be axed

  • Water

As straightforward as the name suggests; it groups water rides. What counts as a water ride? A ride that wouldn't function without water. Think of log flumes, river rapids or normal boat rides. This also includes splash battles, even the ones that have elevated track such as Splash Battle. That is since these rides would not work as intended without water. This thus excludes top spins with fountains, as those can function as intended just fine without the fountains. I decided on this category because water rides are hard to search for currently without going through every water ride type individually.

What do you think of this idea? And what categories would be good to add as well? I would love to hear it! --QDude24 (talk) 21:40, 13 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The multi category makes most sense to me out of these three as unlike the others it doesn't link in with ride type. Whereas for water rides or interactive rides these correspond generally with the existing ride types. I think we should split by number though to make it more interesting. I do agree that interactive is a bit vague, but I don't see why it would be an issue that water would correspond with many existing ride types. After all; many coaster categories also correspond with many of the same models. And beside; Water Rides are a populair ride type often looked at seperatly from coasters and flat rides, which is why I thought having a master list could be nice. I think what would be helpful for the water type before we start adding pages to it would be an article for Water rides with a definition and a list of ride types that fall under it. Then the infobox can link to that page. Lachlan (Talk | contribs) 15:50, 14 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
