Over the Falls was a log flume ride at Seabreeze Amusement Park in Rochester, New York, USA. Plans for the ride were bought from Euclid Beach Park in Cleveland Ohio and George W. Long (Owner/Operator of Seabreeze) built the ride at Seabreeze in 1958. At the time of opening, Over the Falls featured the steepest drop of any log flume in the world.[1]

History

Over The Falls closed in 1984 and was rebuilt as the Seabreeze Log Flume. This allowed the park to remedy many of the issues that the original ride faced, such as trading foul smelling stagnant water from the lagoon to a clean water source, redesigning the boats, and an overall overhaul of the trough and course, among other changes.[1]

Ride Features

Over the Falls featured a main center lagoon that acted as a retaining pool to supply the ride with water. Around the perimeter of the lagoon, the stone and wood flume carried log themed ride vehicles through a path to the classic belt style lift hill. Once there, the log would travel up to the top before descending and splashing down into a larger splash pool section. The ride vehicle then returned to the ride station. A large wooden paddle wheel moved the water through the trough that carried boats throughout the ride's course.[1]

Log Design

The logs that were designed for Over The Falls by Euclid Beach Park ended up being a few inches too wide for optimal operation and were redesigned by George W. Long. The boats were each made of wood attached via angle irons. Cracks were sealed via calking to ensure each boat was water tight.[1]
