Sky Tower is an Observation Tower built by Austrian manufacturer Waagner-Biro currently located at SeaWorld Orlando in Orlando, Florida, USA.

History

Sky Tower began construction in late 1973 and was intended to be finished March 1974, but its opening was delayed. On February 28, 1975, SeaWorld filed a $400,000 suit that named ABM International Sales, Inc. and Summit Insurance Co., a bonding company, charging that the tower was "incapable of carrying passengers, functioning or moving", and that the structure was too heavy to meet Florida standards, that construction deadlines were not met, plans that didn't meet contract specifications were used, and parts were improperly made.[1] SeaWorld Orlando announced it would spend $250,000 to modify overweight portions of the attraction.[2][3]

The ride opened on July 19, 1975, though the official dedication was not held until later.[4]

The ride closed in March 2020 with the onset of COVID-19. The ride did not reopen until March 2022.[5]
