Following recent edits by User:Jason foulkes and User:Ibuddy66 I want to try and clear things up. Please remember I know nothing about Carousels and very little about Seabreeze!

  • The numbers which Jason used in the titles is purely to differentiate the different carousels that have operated at Seabreeze, in order of opening. This is a naming method which is applied across all pages, though sometimes the opening year is used instead, so Jason is following existing convention. So Carousel (Seabreeze no.1) should be the first one which operated at Seabreeze. The serial number/PTC number (36) should still be included in the article.
  • The "Rochester Subway" page cited does say this Carousel (no. 36) operated at Senaca Park before coming to Seabreeze, so I'm not sure why the past location info in the infobox was deleted.
  • As opening years are available for both the Carousel pages, I think it would be clearer in this case to use opening years in the article names, rather than "no.1", "no.2" etc. The numbering is a bit unclear as the existing Carousel is named "no.2" (the article doesn't exist yet) but it's actually the third (or fourth?) Carousel at Seabreeze. I'm happy to rename these pages.

So I think all that's happened is there was a misunderstanding over the name of the ride leading Ibuddy to (perhaps inadvertently) revert the changes Jason made. Lachlan (Talk | contribs) 10:19, 30 May 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Lachlan The issue here has to do with the naming convention itself in relation to carousels. Uaomg the numbered format in succession for installation is problematic in regards to carousels. In this instance, Seabreeze No. 1 is actually the actual name of a completely different carousel that I have yet to add in for Seabreeze. So calling this one Seabreeze No. 1 is not only misleading, but actually completely wrong in this instance despite best attempts to follow the whole sequential numbering system. Seabreeze Carousel No. 1 was actually built by owners in the early years of the park when it was initially opened. There were multiple carousels built by succession over the years at the park titled Seabreeze No. 1, Seabreeze No. 2 and so on. These carousels actually carry the sequential numbering in their name. As far as Carousels from Manufacturers, the sequential numbering proves to be problematic in these instances as many are like the PTC No. 36 with their own sequential numbering system. Adding in other numbering systems is not only inaccurate, but unnecessary as dates of operation and existence are also included for these rides allowing readers to easily know the time line. A brief overview of other carousel logs, etc shows this same point that they do not use a sequential numbering system of their own, but default to the manufacturer numbering systems because of the nature of carousel numbering and naming historically speaking. This can cause many problems if we continue to do this the way we are. In fact, when consulting with a member of the ride safety board in NY they also classify by Manufacturer number only and not a proprietary numbering system for carousels because of the confusion and often innacurate (albeit unintentional inaccuracy) of using that proprietary numbering system for order of installation.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Ibuddy66 (talkcontribs)
I agree, in this case I think we should name the Seabreeze carousel pages after the years of opening. Personally I don't want to use the manufacturer number in the article title because it's inconsistent with other numbered pages. After all, the wiki is about all amusement rides, not just carousels! As there has been no further discussion here, and following feedback from another user that they are happy with renaming these articles using the year, I'll go ahead and change the Seabreeze Carousel articles to use the year in the page title.
