Booster Bike is a steel launched motorbike roller coaster located at Attractiepark Toverland in Sevenum, Limburg, Netherlands. It is located in the Magische Vallei (English: Magic Valley) area of the park. The ride was manufactured by Vekoma and opened on July 27, 2004.[1] It was the first Motorbike Coaster installation to be built.[2] A clone of this roller coaster opened in 2006 at Chimelong Paradise in China.

History

The original render of the ride

It originally opened as part of the Magic Forest area,[1] being one of three rides located outside, and the only one to be fully outside. The area opened earlier that month, on 3 July 2004 with the coaster not operating due to construction falling behind schedule.[3] This prompted Toverland to install a temporary roller coaster just across from the construction site in order to present guests with a promised roller coaster. The ride's soundtrack would be composed by Erik Maessen, Toverland's main composer at the time.[4] The ride's theming was originally designed by Arndt Grutke from the Goldorange design firm. These designs saw the ride covered with meat eating plants, giving the ride a darker theme compared to the other magic forest rides, also designed by Goldorange.[5]

The ride would become part of the Magische Vallei area once it opened in April of 2013. This change would also kickstart other changes at the ride, such as the existing theming being removed, apart from some treestumps at the station's footers. The soundtrack by Erik Maessen would also be removed, being replaced by music made for the Magische Vallei. This music was composed by German company IMAscore, but wouldn't be made specifically for the ride. It instead plays more generic background music for the area itself.

The ride would be one of the only outdoor rides to open during the park's winter opening, with Troy also being open during busier days. Booster Bike would even get a special overlay during the 2019/2020 winter season, transforming into the Christmas Coaster.[6] This overlay would return for the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 winter seasons. This would change in 2022, with the entire park opening during winter from then on.[7]

Trains

2 trains with 8 cars per train. In each car, riders are arranged 2 across in a single row, for a total of 16 riders per train. The trains are designed to resemble motorcycles. They originally featured an eye on the windshield. These where replaced in 2020, when a second train was added as a back-up train. This new train featured the new Toverland logo on the windshield instead, with the old train later being modified to remove its eye as well.[8] The ride can't run these two trains at the same time, thus the ride always has 1 train operations.

Incident

On 3 May 2015, a 9 year old girl got her feet stuck between the station platform and train. Part of the wooden platform had to be cut open with a saw to release her. She ended up with a cast around her leg. According to the girl's uncle, her leg wasn't properly secured; this is how the incident happened. [9]
