HELP

Jolly Rancher Remix (formerly known as Sidewinder) is a steel shuttle roller coaster located in Hersheypark in Hershey, Pennsylvania, USA. It is a Boomerang installation from Dutch firm Vekoma.

History

Hersheypark had to apply for an exception to the local zoning rules to install this roller coaster.[1] Sidewinder was officially announced in January 1991.[2]

Sidewinder opened on May 11, 1991. It was the first roller coaster installed at the park since SooperDooperLooper fourteen years before.[3]

For the 2022 season, the attraction was repainted and renamed Jolly Rancher Remix.[4] It reopened on May 28, 2022.[5]

Design

Elements

The ride begins with a lift hill that pulls the train backwards up 116.5 feet before releasing it into a drop that brings it back through the station and into the actual ride. The train goes through three inversions: the vertical loop and a cobra roll. A second lift hill brings the train up the same height as the first, but this time forwards. The train is released and travels the course backwards before arriving again at the station. Jolly Rancher Remix is located in the Pioneer Frontier section of the park across from Storm Runner and near Trailblazer.

A tunnel was added as part of the retheme, giving off a different scent of Jolly Ranchers each ride.[6]

Color scheme

In 2021, Sidewinder was repainted with green track and blue and purple supports.[7] Previously, it had black track and white supports.[8]

Trains

The second train, in use from 2011 to 2022

Single train with 7 cars. In each car, riders are arranged 2 across in 2 rows, for a total of 28 riders per train.

In 2011, the original Vekoma train was replaced with a more modern style train also from the same manufacturer. This train was replaced again in 2022 as part of the retheme.
