Route 66 West Coaster is a steel roller coaster located at Pacific Park in Santa Monica, California, USA. It was built by Morgan and opened in 1996.
History
Santa Monica West Coaster opened with the park on May 25, 1996. It was the first roller coaster designed and built by Morgan.[1]
In February 2020, Pacific Park announced that the ride would become Route 66 West Coaster following a renovation at a cost of over $1 million. Pacific Park is situated at the western end of the historic Route 66, a former 2,446-mile-long highway. It received a new train from Chance Rides (who acquired Morgan in 2001) with a design based on classic American automobiles. The station was refurbished with Route 66 memorabilia added to the station and throughout the route of the roller coaster. Route 66 West Coaster was expected to open by "Summer 2020"; however, the park was closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.[2]
The ride reopened with the park in April of 2021.
Design
The ride has a chain lift hill and two 540-degree helices.
Trains
Single train with 5 cars. In each car, riders are arranged 2 across in 3 rows, for a total of 30 riders per train.
