History
William F. Mangels founded the W.F. Mangels Company in 1890 in Coney Island, New York. The company specialized in manufacturing amusement rides and equipment.
In 1914, Mangels introduced the Whip, an amusement ride that became one of the company’s most-known products, with over 500 units sold.[1][2]
The company produced various amusement rides, including carousels, kiddie rides, and other innovative attractions. Mangels became well-known for his contributions to ride safety and mechanics, holding over 50 patents related to amusement ride technology.[3][4]
In 1958, William Mangels passed away. The leadership of the W.F. Mangels Company was taken over by his son, who continued operations for some time.
The company struggled financially as competition increased and the amusement industry evolved. The W.F. Mangels Company filed for bankruptcy, marking the decline of the business. In 1971, the company officially closed.[5]
