Granada Studios was an amusement park and television studio located in Manchester, England, UK. It also served a studio tour called Granada Studios Tour. It operated from 1988 to 1998.

History

The Granada Studios Tour opened in 1988,[1] as part of Granada's expansion to the theme park industry following the opening of American Adventure and the acquisition of Camelot Theme Park.

At the end of December 1999, Granada Studios was closed to the public. The reasons for this were due to declining visitor numbers and Granada prioritising other parts of its business, such as the failing ONdigital (ITV Digital) service.

The park grounds remained as a facility for private events until Granada announced the attraction's permanent closure at the beginning of 2001.[2] The attraction closed permanently in February[3] and shortly afterward was demolished to extend the Coronation Street set. The park's entrance remained although a car park now sat on most of the former site. The entrance was demolished in 2018 once redevelopment on the site started.

Layout

The main icon of Granada Studios was its New York-style set diorama which contained several gift shops and attractions. The tour showcased how the television industry was produced and directed, as well as viewing sets from various Granada Television-produced shows. The tour's main offering was to allow guests to visit the set of Coronation Street aside from Mondays.

Each section could also be rented out for private events like weddings.
