History
Lion Country Safari opened on July 11, 1972. The park was located on 550 acres and had approximately 1,000 animals in a drive-thru safari setting.[1] The park was purchased by USA firm Africa Arts International for $3 million in 1975, who renamed the park to Kingdoms 3 in 1976 and spent an additional $2 million on improvements. They split the park into three themed sections: Wild Kingdom (250 acres, including the original safari), Fun Kingdom (40 acres, with eight new rides), and Nature Kingdom, intended for 1977.[2]
