Kokpunkten Actionbad (English: Boiling Point Action Pool) is a water park in Västerås, Västmanland, Sweden.
History
The building which now contains Kokpunkten was originally constructed in 1917 as one of the earliest electricity production facilities in Sweden, providing reliable power using steam when the Dalälven river water levels were too low for Älvkarleby hydroelectric power station to run. Over the next few decades, the plant was expanded to become the third largest power station in Sweden and a heat source for a district heating network in Västerås.
In 1969, due to the development of nuclear power, the power plant became a backup power source, and was primarily used for training. The power plant was decommissioned in 1983 with the option to be able to recommission it if required, however in 1992 the plant was decommissioned permanently.[1][2]
In 2005 discussions started around the construction of a water park in the original power plant.[3] Construction started in November 2011, and on 28 August 2014 Kokpunkten Actionbad opened, occupying eight floors of the original power plant.[4][5][6]
