Liseberg Oceana is a water park under construction in Gothenburg, Västra Götaland, Sweden.

History

Construction on the park initially began in late 2020 and was scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2024. It was reported that the park would cover an area of 13,600 square meters indoors and 4,000 square meters outdoors, and would cost an expected €110 million.[1]

The park during the fire in 2024

Around 10am on 12 February 2024 a large fire broke out at the park. A few days after the incident, the police announced the death of the park's construction manager, Patrik Gillholm. A further sixteen people were treated for minor injuries with all leaving hospital the same day. Significant parts of the main swimming building survived the fire, as well as the main entrance and basement entrances. The cause of the fire is currently unknown with the police investigation expected to finish in spring 2025.[2][3][4]

On 17 July 2024 the park's board decided to proceed with reconstructing the park, closely following the plans of the original park but with some additional fire protections in place. The park expects reconstruction to take around two years with the park opening in 2026.[5]
