Disney Adventure is a cruise ship operated under Disney Cruise Line.

History

In 2016, Genting Hong Kong commissioned two new cruise ships for their Star Cruises division, both entitled Global Dream. Both would be entitled as the world's largest cruise ships by number of passengers, with a capacity of over 9,000 people.[1] Construction began on the first ship on March 8, 2018.[2]

In January 2022, the company constructing the ships, MV Werften, filed for bankruptcy.[3] By June, the first ship was 80% completed but may not be finished, while the second was announced to have been cancelled and would be entirely scrapped.[4] In October, Genting Hong Kong filed for bankruptcy themselves[5] and the incomplete Global Dream was sold to Disney Cruise Line for for €40 million, with plans to complete the ship to reach its maiden voyage by 2025.[6]

In September 2023, Disney Cruise Line announced that the ship's name would be the Disney Adventure, and it would be the largest cruise ship in the chain and the first to not be located within the United States, instead being housed in Singapore.[7] The guest capacity was reduced to 6,000 passengers.[8]
