Drop Tower: Scream Zone is a Drop Tower built by Swiss manufacturer Intamin currently located at California's Great America in Santa Clara, California, USA. Opened on March 16, 1996, it was originally known as Drop Zone: Stunt Tower and had a theme based on the 1994 Paramount film Drop Zone.[1]

The ride is 224 feet tall.[1]

History

In 1995, Paramount's Great America announced the addition of Drop Zone: Stunt Tower. The attraction officially opened on March 16, 1996.[2]

On June 22, 2007, Cedar Fair closed down all five Drop Zone: Stunt Tower locations following an accident on Superman: Tower of Power at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom, in which a 13-year-old girl lost both feet after a thick cable tightened her legs.[3]

During the 2008 season, the ride was renamed to Drop Tower: Scream Zone.

For the 2019 season, the attraction was repainted. The shades of brown and green used were inspired by California's sequoia and redwood trees.[4]

Incident

On August 22, 1999, a 12-year-old boy fell to his death from the attraction. His family claimed the harness was not locked properly and he had a mental disability.[5]
