Mario Kart: Koopa's Challenge (Japanese: マリオカート 〜クッパの挑戦状〜) is a Dark Ride currently located at Universal Studios Japan in Konohana-ku, Osaka, Japan. It is based on the Mario Kart video game franchise. The ride opened with the Super Nintendo World area on 18 March 2021.[1] The ride, along with the area were planned to open in the Summer of 2020 until being delayed due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.[2]
Layout and Gameplay
The ride consists of two tracks, each featuring four-seater ride vehicles styled like Standard Karts in Mario Kart 8. The players wear Mario-themed Virtual Reality Headsets which allows for the on-ride graphics to be shown. In the ride film, guests are taken through different racetracks in the franchise while battling out against Team Bowser using Koopa Shells as projectiles, color-coded to the players in the kart. The aim of the game is too shoot as many Team Bowser members as possible while avoiding the Team Mario members. The players' scores are tallied at the end of the ride, with the option to save your score if one owns the Power-Up Bands.
