Universal Studios Japan (Japanese: ユニバーサル・スタジオ・ジャパン) is an amusement park in Konohana-ku, Osaka, Japan.

History

The park was closed from 29 February to 7 June 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.[1]

The new themed area Super Nintendo World, based on the Mario franchise, was expected to open on 4 February 2021.[2] However, its opening was pushed back due to government restrictions amid the coronavirus pandemic.[3] It opened on 18 March.[4] The park closed once again due to the pandemic on 24 April.[1]

Theming

Universal Studios Florida features many themed themed areas, each offering its own distinct rides, attractions, and food service venues.

Area Description
Amity Village Based on the Jaws franchise.
Jurassic Park Based on the franchise of the same name. It is set within the titular park
Hollywood Set within the Hollywood district, where Universal Studios is headquartered.
Minion Park Themed to Illumination's Dispicible Me franchise. Opened in 2017.
New York City Set within New York City.
San Francisco Set within the respective area of California.
Super Nintendo World Based on the worlds and games of Nintendo. It is split into two distinct sub-areas; Super Mario Land, which opened with the area in 2021, is based on the Super Mario franchise, and Donkey Kong Country, which opened in 2024, is based on the game series of the same name.
Universal Wonderland A children/family area themed to the park's most popular IP-based franchises. It is split into three areas - Snoopy Studios, Hello Kitty Fashion Avenue, and Sesame Street Fun Zone. The area opened in 2012, although Snoopy Studios originally opened with the park. Most of Sesame Street Fun Zone replaced the Land of Oz, and before that, it was Western.
WaterWorld Inspired by the film of the same name.
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter Based on the Wizarding World and set within Hogsmeade. Opened in 2014.
