An enclosed roller coaster is a coaster which is built inside a structure intended solely for the ride. Often, the structure has a theme or houses special effects. Enclosed roller coasters are often ridden in almost or complete darkness.
Enclosed roller coasters are easily confused with indoor roller coasters. Enclosed roller coasters are housed in a building built specifically for the ride, whereas indoor roller coasters are housed in a building unrelated to the ride such as a shopping mall or indoor theme park.
While most enclosed roller coasters can operate in the rain such as Dark Knight at Six Flags Great America, one of the only ones to not operate in the rain was Disaster Transport at Cedar Point, due to the roof being susceptible to leaking.[citation needed]
