Out and back roller coaster

Arkansas Twister, a wooden out and back roller coaster

Out and back refers to the design of a roller coaster. Out and back coasters commonly start out with the lift hill, which is followed by a series of hills and drops. The track then takes a 180 degree turn, either directly or through a more complicated turnaround. This is typically followed by several more airtime hills, this time being much smaller. Out and back roller coasters tend to focus on maximising airtime but may also feature inversions.
