Universal Studios Singapore is a theme park located in Sentosa, Singapore. Construction of the theme park and the rest of its resort started on 19 April 2007. It is the second Universal Studios theme park to open in Asia (Universal Studios Japan was the first). The official plans for the park were unveiled to the public when Universal Studios Singapore released a park map to the public on 20 October 2009. Universal Studios Singapore has since attracted more than 2 million visitors in the 9 months from its opening.

The park contains six roller coasters (Battlestar Galactica has two separate tracks), which are the only permanent operating roller coasters in Singapore.[1]

History

Prior to the construction of Universal Studios Singapore, the plot of land was home to a waterpark called Fantasy Island which closed in the early 2000s. Construction of Resorts World Sentosa began on April 16, 2007.[2] The park opened for a "sneak preview" during the evenings of 14 to 21 February 2010.[3]
