Reykjavik Park and Zoo is an amusement park and zoo located in Reykjavik, Iceland.
History
In 1986 Reykjavik City Council decided to construct a zoo to provide education about Icelandic farm animals and farm practices. Construction began in 1989 and the zoo opened on 19 May 1990. Based on the positive public reaction, the city council then decided to build on land next to the zoo to provide a recreational area, which would be called The Park. Construction started in August 1991 and during construction it was decided that the zoo and park would be combined with a bridge connecting the two. The park officially opened on 24 June 1993 under a single entity, now known as Reykjavik Park and Zoo.[1]
