Sky Tower was an Observation Tower which operated at the Glasgow Garden Festival and subsequently as a standalone attraction in the town of Rhyl until its closure in 2010. While the tower still exists, it now serves as a beacon.
History
The tower first operated at the 1988 Glasgow Garden Festival, where it was known as the Clydesdale Bank Tower and was opened by Prince Charles and Princess Diaana. Following the festival, it was dismantled and reassembled on the Rhyl seafront.[1]
The tower last operated in 2010. The following year, a safety report found that £400,000 worth of repairs were required to keep the ride operational.[2] After standing but not operating for seven years, in 2017 work was carried out to turn the tower into a beacon.[3]
