Tampa Typhoon was a duo of body speed water slides formerly located at Adventure Island Tampa Bay in Tampa, Florida, USA.[1]
History
Tampa Typhoon opened on the first day of the 1986 season on March 15, 1986. It was built on an extension of Gulf Scream's tower.[2]
Two injuries were reported on the slide in 2003, one on May 3, where a 13-year-old girl suffered a fractured arm, and the other on July 12, 2003, where a 12-year-old girl suffered a vaginal tear.[3]
Adventure Island annouced the closure of Tampa Typhoon in January 2006 with the announcement of Riptide.[4] The park claimed that Riptide was Tampa Typhoon's replacement, even though Riptide was built on a seperate plot of land.
It presumably last operated on Adventure Island's last day of the 2005 season on October 30, 2005.[5][4]
The slide's tower stood until 2014 when Gulf Scream was demolished to make way for Colossal Curl.[6] Vanish Point now occupies Tampa Typhoon's former runout area.
