Tower of Terror is a steel sit-down roller coaster located at Gold Reef City in Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa. Opened in 2001, the ride was designed by Ronald Bussink, manufactured by local companies and built by Gold Reef City.[1] Before its 2006 -2007 refurbishment, this coaster held the record for the highest g-force on a roller coaster at 6.3 g. According to the project manager of the refurbishment, the ride now has "drastically lower levels, now reaching close to 4G in the tunnel".[2]
History
Following a refurbishment, Tower of Terror was reopened in 2008.[3]

Tower of Terror lifts the car up with an elevator lift. It then pushes the car forward into the vertical drop. The drop dives 15 metres under the ground into a former mineshaft.[4] The coaster was originally built with a lift hill until the 2006-2007 refurbishment.
Trains
Single car trains. Riders are arranged 4 across in 2 rows for a total of 8 riders per car.
