Alpine Slide was a manufacturer of bobsled alpine coasters.

History

The alpine slide product was developed by Demag of West Germany. The first installation opened in 1972 and by 1976 they had built six slides in West Germany and one in Switzerland. Alpine Slide Corporation was established by the Bromley ski resort and began building alpine slides in the United States in an agreement with Demag. The first installation, Alpine Slide, opened at the Bromley ski resort in July 1976.[1][2]

In 1979, Alpine Slide Corporation was merged with a second company, ASCO.[3] The combined company was named Inventex to reflect an expansion of its offering to include other products such as water slides.[4] In May 1981, Robert O'Hanneson became the president and CEO of Inventex. O'Hanneson joined the company in January and previously worked at Arrow Development.[5]

In 1995, a settlement noted that Inventex no longer existed and had many default judgements against it.[6] However, in the 2000s Alpine Slide, LLC was in business supplying new slides and track replacement for older slides. Albertsson was president of Alpine Slide, LLC.[7]

In February 2011 the company, now named Alpine Products, was acquired by Aquatic Development Group.[8]

Stig Albertsson died on August 22, 2024 at the age of 93.[9]

The company manufactured some components in house and imported others from Germany, Mexico, and Canada.[3] At least initially, the sleds were imported from Germany.[4]

The slides were initially made from a concrete and asbestos composite. Later slides were made from fibreglass.

In the 2000s the company offered Augie sleds which include both a hand-operated brake and a speed restrictor.[10]
