History
Chaos officially opened in 1996. The ride closed following an incident in July 2001.
Incident
On July 30, 2001, a major accident occurred shortly before 7pm EST on Chaos. The entire ride collapsed after the upper rotating portion separated. Emergency crews had to saw through the wreckage and use a crane to stabilize the ride before removing riders.[1] There were 33 people onboard, with 31 being taken to the hospital. The others were evacuated nine hours later.[2] Following this, the rest of the Chaos rides were temporarily closed. Prior to the 2002 season, Chaos was completely removed from Michigan's Adventure.
