HELP

Galaxi was an S.D.C. steel roller coaster located at Myrtle Beach Pavilion in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, USA. It was originally located at Kings Dominion where it was known as "Galaxie".

Design

This ride was a standard S.D.C Galaxi roller coaster. It was painted white track, black rails and red supports.

History

Kings Dominion

The ride was an original attraction at Kings Dominion in 1975. On September 11, 1983, an incident occurred during the coaster that resulted in the death of a 13-year-old boy. The incident was used as a primary example of "unsafe" rides in press coverage of concurrent U.S. Senate hearings on amusement ride safety. Due to the negative press, Kings Dominion decided to dismantle the ride rather than reopen it; the ride was replaced with Shockwave in 1986. Shockwave operated until August 2015; a Mondial Frisbee named Delirium currently occupies the spot where Galaxie and Shockwave once stood.

Myrtle Beach Pavilion

Some time after the ride was removed from Kings Dominion, it was relocated to the now-defunct Myrtle Beach Pavilion in South Carolina. It opened at the park 1985, and closed in 1997. The ride has since been scrapped.
