Lightning Bolt was a steel roller coaster located at MGM Grand Adventures in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. It was built by Intamin and opened in 1993, was extended by Arrow Dynamics in 1997 (with the ride's new track and supports engineered by Ride Centerline[1]), and closed in 2000.
History
Lightning Bolt was originally built as a 1,100 foot long indoor roller coaster with a 41 foot lift hill. In 1997, the ride was relocated to an outside location within the park but retained the same layout.[2] Later that same year, a second, 70 foot lift hill was added and the ride was extended outdoors. The length was increased from 1,100 feet to 2,400 feet by Arrow Dynamics. The additional track and second lift hill were built over the Grand Canyon Rapids ride.
After the ride's closure, it was listed for sale online for $660,000 USD.[3] The ride was sold to Granite Park, a theme park project that was ultimately cancelled, with the coaster ending up with a scrap dealer.
