Types of amusement park
Name | Description |
---|---|
Default | An attraction which does not fit into any of the other categories. |
Hotel | An attraction that contains coasters, rides, or slides, but is primarily marketed as a hotel. If a water park is inaccessible without a room in the hotel, the article should be based on the hotel, not the water park. |
Holiday park | An attraction that contains rides, coasters, or slides, but is primarily marketed as a holiday destination. A holiday camp contains many individual houses and possibly one or more hotels. |
Indoor FEC | An indoor attraction with rides and coasters aimed at younger children. |
Pier | An attraction located on one or more piers, or an attraction that is itself a pier. |
Sports venue | A stadium, race track, or other kind of sports venue that contains rides, coasters, or water slides. |
Ship | A cruise ship. |
Swimming pool | An attraction marketed as a swimming or fitness facility. |
Trolley park | A trolley park, a historic distinction of amusement park in the United States. Trolley parks were located at the end of or along streetcar lines and were often setup by streetcar companies. |
Water park | An attraction with multiple slides marketed as a recreational facility. |
Zoo | An attraction with multiple animal enclosures containing wild species. |

- Most of these seem good, but two stand out to me that I think could be changed:
- Holiday parks are not a very global concept, especially in terms of classification, and could be equivalent to a hotel/resort in many places. The category is currently called "Holiday camp" which is a bit clearer, at least to me as an American, on what exactly it is, as we have places such as Splashway Waterpark over here.
- Race track seems too specific, and as I previously recommended, it could be changed to "sporting venues" to allow for places such as Modern Woodmen Park to be added. CoasterDave (talk) 07:40, 4 April 2025 (UTC)
- Hello @CoasterDave Funny you mention holiday camp / holiday park - it is possibly more of a European thing. I thought a "camp" specifically was a British concept which is why I changed it to park.
- Yes regarding race track that sounds sensible as allows more places to be lumped in. Lachlan (Talk | contribs) 17:54, 5 April 2025 (UTC)
