Whirlwind Racer was a twin roller coaster located at Dreamland Margate in Margate, Kent, England, UK. It was installed shortly after the Scenic Railway and was located at the end of the Scenic Railway, beside the zoo building. It was one of the first known powered roller coasters.

The ride operated until the late 1950s and possibly the 1960s. During the 1970s, the Cyclone opened where the Whirlwind Racer once stood.

History

When it first opened, the station for Whirlwind Racer was elevated. At some point relatively soon after, the station was lowered and relocated closer to the Scenic Railway.

Location

The Whirlwind Racer was located in-between the Scenic Railway and the Racing Coaster, close to the railway line. It opened beside the zoo building, which was later destroyed. Its spot was later occupied by the Cyclone and the Rotor, which were subsequently replaced by the Looping Star. The location of the Whirlwind Racer was later occupied by the Crazy Mouse.

Design

The roller coaster was short and kept low to the ground with banked turns and a single crossover.

Trains

Single train with 5 cars. In each car, riders are arranged 2 across in 2 rows, for a total of 20 riders per train. One train for each track.
