Area 51 - Top Secret is a Shoot The Chute built by Swiss manufacturer Intamin currently located at Movie Park Germany in Bottrop, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

History

The ride originally opened in 1996, with the rest of the then-known Warner Bros. Movie World Germany,, as Das Bermuda Dreieck. It was a near replica of the ride that was refurbished a couple years prior. Zeitgeist Design and Production's Ryan Harmon served as the Director of Show Development for Warner Bros. International Recreation Enterprises, which created the park's worth of rides, included Das Bermuda Dreieck.[1]

Alder Construction, which had worked on the Australian version, also helped design the attraction.[2] Some of the theming was done in house by Warner Bros. Movie World Germany, as well.[3] It would close in 2005 to undergo a makeover.

It would re-open later that year as Bermuda Triangle: Alien Encounter. The ride had nearly stayed the same, minus the ride's effects not working, and a new paint given to the volcanoes for the 2006 season. This move was also done to coincide with the park's new owner taking over, Parques Reunidos.[4] The effects would be later reactivated for the 2010 season.

However, the ride faced similar problems to its identical clone in Australia. Effects started to deteriorate, and the pre-shows stopped working, eventually allowing guests to walk right past them.[5] in 2016, the ride received boats from the newly closed Ice Age Adventure, which it will occasionally rotate within the ride layout.[6]

In 2019, the ride would close and re-open later that year as Area 51 - Top Secret, which completely revitalized the attraction's effects and show scenes, while keeping the ride true to its original identity.[7] The new theme highlighted U.S. Military base and Area 51 elements, with new theming placed around the attraction.[7] Many of the animatronics and moving pieces were replaced as well.[7]
