Beto Carrero World is an amusement park in Penha, Santa Catarina, Brazil. It opened to the public in 1991.

History

João Batista Sérgio Murad in September 9th, 1937. During the 1950s, he was very skilled, being a radio host, a musician and he sold ads. He created a marketing agency, and it was during this period that he created his signature character: Beto Carrero (which would later become his pseudonym and nickname), a homage to his father, which was known as Alexandre Carrero.

João would also travel across making performances with horses and always spread a smile to anyone’s face.

In the 1980s, Beto would officially launch the Beto Carrero character to the public. Beto was a character who always sat in his horse, Faísca, and he was unoficially known as “Brazil’s cowboy”.

In 1985, João would release Beto Carrero’s comic franchise, titled As Aventuras de Beto Carrero. João would adopt Beto Carrero as his nickname and would also star in movies and made cameos in TV shows as his character.

It was in 1991, in Penha, Santa Catarina, where Beto started his theme park, with some rides and two circus tarpaulins.

In 2008, Beto passed away at 71 years old after a surgery. His family now owns and runs the park in his behalf.

Roller Coaster Evolution

in 1993, the park officialy opened its first roller coaster, Star Mountain (then known as Star World Mountain), a Vekoma Corkscrew with Bayerncurve coaster which would attract millions of people to the park.

In April 2007, Beto Carrero World opened its second roller coaster, Dum-Dum, a Wacky Worm manufactured in-house. Star World Mountain would be renamed that same year to Star Mountain. That same year the park also opened Tigor Mountain, relocated from the defunct Fantasy Place indoor theme park.

In 2008, Beto died, and in his memory, the park bought the Suzuka Circuit coaster Firewhip (then named Blackout), a Vekoma Suspended Looping Coaster and named it Firewhip (in Portuguese meaning Chicote de Fogo), a homage to Beto.
