On 24 May 2019, Sea World announced a $50 million expansion, creating a new park area called The New Atlantis. Leviathan was one of three new attractions announced. It was planned to open in December 2020. However, the opening date was pushed back to Easter 2022.
Leviathan eventually opened on 2 December 2022.
