Scenic, or Scenic Railway, was the first roller coaster to be built at Six Gun Territory, at the time known as Willow Grove Park, and operated until the park's closure in 1975. The side friction roller coaster was designed and built by famed coaster and ride builder, William Morris.[1] The Scenic Railway was often referred to as the "Nickel Scenic" referring to the cost of 5 cents per ride. This price remained the same throughout the operating life of the roller coaster.[1]
Design
Riders would depart the station and embark on a lift hill that would then lead to an out and back design course through the trees in a wooded area of the park. At the time, this was considered a novel use of the newly patented scenic railway and side friction roller coasters which were commonly built in the figure 8 style. [1]
Trains
Single car. Riders are arranged 2 across in 2 rows, for a total of 4 riders per car.
