Thunderbolt was a wooden roller coaster located at Six Gun Territory (originally known as Willow Grove Park) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA from 1931-1975. The roller coaster replaced the original Thunderbolt roller coaster that burned to the ground in a massive fire that destroyed much of the park in 1929.[1][2] The new roller coaster was similar in layout and design, with a few changes that took its top speed from a previous, alleged 70 mph to allegedly 100 mph.
In 1970, a $50,000 renovation was undertaken in which new wooden support beams were added to the ride to both replace older worn-out beams as well as to add a few stabilizing sections.[3]
