HELP

Cliff Hanger is a steel roller coaster currently standing but not operating at Ghost Town Village in Maggie Valley, North Carolina, USA. When it opened in 1988, the ride was originally known as Red Devil. The attraction closed in 2002, along with the park. Red Devil was given a $6 million refurbishment, including a new color scheme, new trains and a new name, Cliff Hanger. Ghost Town Village eventually reopened in 2007, except for Cliff Hanger. The refurbished attraction reopened in 2009, but was only operating sporadically throughout the season.

History

The attraction was built by O.D. Hopkins and opened as Red Devil in September 1988. Construction had begun earlier that year in April. Its summer opening was delayed due to construction being behind schedule and harsh weather conditions.[1] It operated until the closure of the park in 2002. The park reopened in 2007 and the roller coaster was refurbished and renamed Cliff Hanger.[2] It was expected to reopen that year,[3] but this was delayed due to technical problems.[4] The ride eventually reopened on June 30, 2009, but two days later, the ride was closed when state inspectors found a hairline crack on one of the new train's frames. It reopened during October 2009, but closed again a few days later after more mechanical issues.

Design

This roller coaster has a single vertical loop. The station is at the ride's highest point and the chain lift hill is at the end of the ride.

Trains

7 cars per train. In each car, riders are arranged 2 across in 2 rows, for a total of 28 riders per train.
