Halfpipe Canyon is a ride product from Sega. This pendulum-based ride combined with a game pits two guests as they "snowboard" up and down a halfpipe to gain as many points as possible as part of the minigame element of the ride, with the players gaining the most points winning the game.
History
The ride was developed by a team at Sega led by Hiroshi Uemura.[1]
Completed attractions
Halfpipe Canyon debuted with Tokyo Joypolis in July 1996.[2]
On April 29, 1998, A second installation was an opening-day attraction at the Sugai Dinos Obihiro game center in Obihiro, Hokkaido. This version was half the size of the original, only allowing for four players to ride.[3] It is not known how long it spent at the venue but by 2005, it had been relocated by Sega to their Player's Arena game center in Shanghai.[4]
In 2009, a third installation was built for Sega Republic in Dubai. This too was a four-player version. After Sega Republic closed at the beginning of June 2017, it's whereabouts are currently unknown.
