Kraken's Conquest was a 4-lane mat racer water slide built by Canadian manufacturer ProSlide formerly located at Daytona Lagoon in Daytona Beach, Florida, USA.[1]
History
Kraken's Conquest opened on June 20, 2007, as the first slide added to the park since its opening.[2]
The slide was repainted by Baynum Solutions in 2016.[3]
Hurricane Irma
On September 7, 2017, Daytona Lagoon annouced the park would be temporarily closed due to Hurricane Irma.[4] The last day the park operated before this time was September 4, 2017.[5]
The park was hit by the hurricane on September 11, 2017, during the storm, the slide's runout was pulled from its supports by winds, broke through a fence, and was tossed off of the slide's elevated platform onto Ora Street, a road on the park's perimeter, this heavily damaged the slide sections.[6][7]
Shortly after the storm, Daytona Lagoon annouced that Kraken's Conquest would not reopen during the 2017 season, but that work was being done to return an attraction to that location.[8] The water park reopened on September 23, 2017, without Kraken's Conquest.[9]
Closure, removal, and replacement
As of October 2017, the park still intended to repair the slide, but by April 2018, it was decided to remove and replace the slide.[10][11]
In May 2018, two slides were annouced to reuse Kraken's Conquest's tower, a half pipe slide, and similar 4-lane mat racer, both manufactured by Arihant Water Park Equipment.[12] The mat slide's name would later be announced as Kraken's Revenge.[13]
Kraken's Conquest was dismantled in June 2018, with construction on Kraken's Revenge starting shortly after.[13][7] Kraken's Revenge opened on April 29, 2019.[14]
Design
The slide was a fully open 4-lane mat racer slide with 3 straight drops.
It was built on an elevated platform on the north edge of the park, and the slide's footers are still present beneath Kraken's Revenge.
