Outlaw is a wooden roller coaster located at Adventureland in Altoona, Iowa, USA. It was built by Custom Coasters International, Inc. and opened for the park's 20th anniversary on April 24, 1993. The yellow pine constructed coaster features a total of 9 drops and 12 turns. The close knit Twister style coaster is heralded as the prototype for what would become designer Mike Boodley's signature style in the forthcoming Great Coasters International (GCI).[1][2][3]

History

Outlaw Gulch

Outlaw Gulch is the formal name of the 12 acre expansion that features The Outlaw roller coaster. This $5 million expansion brought a number of other attractions with it in addition to the roller coaster.[4]

This would be one of the final projects of Jack Krantz, the former owner and operator of Adventureland, before his retirement process would begin in 1993.[1][4]
