RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 is the second installment in the RollerCoaster Tycoon series. It improved on the original in numerous ways such as the introduction of a desicated roller coaster editor.
The game has sold the most copies of any RCT game.
In 2014, a project called OpenRCT2 was launched which aims to decompile the original game and create an improved open source version.

The game contains five real-world parks, all of which were owned by Six Flags at the time the game was published. The recreations aren't complete and the game encourages the player to recreate the missing rides themselves or create their own. These parks were:
- Six Flags Belgium (now Walibi Belgium)
- Six Flags Great Adventure
- Six Flags Holland (now Walibi Holland)
- Six Flags Magic Mountain
- Six Flags Over Texas
