Twirlin Cups (as it is most commonly referred to despite the full name being Twirlin Tea Cups) is a Junior Teacups ride built by Italian manufacturer Zamperla currently located at Seabreeze Amusement Park in Rochester, New York, USA. It was installed in 2011 after the removal of the classic PTC Crazy Daisy Tea Cups ride after the conclusion of the 2010 season.[1][2]

Design

The ride features 6 rotating tea cup ride vehicles with a variety of painted designs on a singular rotating platform. At the center of the platform is a larger tilted teapot figurine. Each cup is designed to hold four total passengers including 2 adults and 2 children. Each ride vehicle contains an inner wheel which is used to control the spin of the cups. Surrounding the ride is a canopy with led lighting that doubles as a protective frame for a winter cover to protect the ride from the lakeside weather. The cups are removed and stored in a warehouse onsite where they undergo yearly maintenance.[1][2]

Controversy

While the ride remains popular with younger riders, teen and adult riders often complain that the ride does not contend to the Crazy Cups ride it replaced. Many were also enraged at its removal and replacement by this rendition as the original was also an historic attraction that is increasingly hard to find. The Zamperla edition has been criticized as too small for adults to comfortably fit in, relatively tame compared to the former attraction, even as far as many classifying it as "boring" compared with the figure 8 interchanging cups of its predecessor. The park was said to have been scolded by various amusement park historical and preservationist societies for its failure to properly ensure the survival of the Crazy Cups and the hasty removal without full public input, however this remains hearsay and has yet to be confirmed as true or false.
