Grizzly River Rampage was a River Rapids ride built by Swiss manufacturer Intamin previously located at Opryland USA in Nashville, Tennessee, USA.

History

Intamin outbid Arrow Development for the project.[1]

Grizzly River Rampage opened on June 6, 1981. It was located in the newly built Grizzly River Country area.[2]

During Opryland USA's annual Howl-o-Ween in the Park event, Grizzly River Rampage's course was drained out and was used as a temporary haunted house attraction linked to the nearby Chaos.[3]

The ride permanently closed with the park on December 31, 1997.

After the ride's closure, its components were sold to Premier Parks (later Six Flags). The conveyor belt systems were transported to the site of Old Indiana Fun-n-Water Park in Thorntown, Indiana, USA, where they were never used.[4] The rest of the components went to Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom in Louisville, Kentucky, USA, where they were subsequently used on on the park's Penguin's Blizzard River which opened in 1999.[5]

During 1999, the ride's rafts were sent to Six Flags AstroWorld in Houston, Texas, USA for use on Thunder River. After Six Flags AstroWorld closed in 2005, the rafts were sent to Six Flags Great America and Six Flags Over Texas.[6][7]

Troughs and rockwork for Grizzly River Rampage remained at the former site of Opryland USA for several years after the park's closure.[8][9] These were removed in late 2011.
